The same goes for our bodies. The yin tissues are deeper and denser. They are the bones, ligaments, and joints. The yang tissues are the muscles, blood, and skin. Yin and yang tissues need to be exercised in different ways. Yin tissues require a passive and sustained hold where as yang tissues require rhythmic and repetitive movements.
The merge of the opposites can have serendipitous results. Who knew that chili and chocolate would be such a good combination? Or that lemon in carrot jam would compliment the sweetness in such a multi-sensory way? Or that bacon ice cream would be a desired breakfast refresher? In yoga too, this merger of the yin and yang has surprisingly powerful results.
On Sunday, November 2nd Shelly Cassivi is holding a workshop at Newport Yoga. Join us from 12:30 to 3:00 pm and learn about the benefits of Yin Yang Yoga and as well practice Yin Yang Flow -- when you find the right combination, you will discover your stillness in movement and your flow in stillness.
Who is this workshop for?
- Anyone wanting to dramatically increase their flexibility including athletes, runners, and weight trainers
- For people who have time challenges (this is me), this is a great class because you get the benefits of an active and slower paced practice all in one class
- Yoga students wishing to deepen their practice
- As a complement to acupuncture, this is a way to get energy moving through your body.
